Becka Dowding (b.1987) is an artist who grew up in Massapequa, NY on the southshore of Long Island. Artist Statement: My artwork has always been about documentation. In the beginning it was about the people I'd run into or have known for years. Now I find myself documenting still people, but also the atmospheres they inhabit, and environments I have moved through. In the atmospheres there is an element of the people without them neccessarly being there but their story. I am very interested also in the distengration and also at the same time, regeneration of the environments. I find myself trying to find ways of the human nature and the natural world interconnecting with each other and trying to find the identity within it. My work in a sense is about survival but it's also about hope and enjoying life.
